WHAT KIND OF EARTH …
... do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? This question does not have to do with the environment alone and in isolation; the issue cannot be approached piecemeal.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE…
... of our life in this world? What is the goal of our work and all our efforts? What need does the earth have of us?Unless we struggle with these deeper issues I do not believe that our concern for ecology will produce significant results.

THERE ARE CERTAIN …
... environmental issues where it is not easy to achieve a broad consensus. But I want to encourage an honest and open debate, so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common good.

RECENT WORLD SUMMITS…
... on the environment have failed to live up to expectations. What would induce anyone, at this stage, to hold on to power only to be remembered for their inability to take action when it was urgent and necessary to do so?

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CREATION: INSPIRATION AND WEALTH
The ecumenical project »Sustainable Preaching« has the central goal of creating a »living network« for climate protection and care of creation. It relies on the inspiring power of encounters between church perspectives from East and West, young and older adults, women and men from different European countries.
People from all over the world approach the issues of climate protection and biodiversity with hopeful creativity and find fulfillment in action, carried by the power of Christian faith and love and respect for all living beings. Sharing information, hopes and visions for social and ecological justice is a motivating support.
The starting point for this actual ecumenical project, which is funded by Erasmus+, was the English-language project »sustainable preaching«, which has been running since 2018 and tries to better network the ethical and spiritual dimension of creation care internationally by means of sermon suggestions. Parallel a German-language cooperation project “nachhaltig predigen” has been running since 2005. It is until now jointly supported by the dioceses and churches of Germany and Switzerland and aims to demonstrate the connections between biblical texts and sustainability in preaching.
